Once Human's New Deviations: A 2026 Guide to Whalepups, Wolf Masks, Storm Salamanders, and Doctor Foxes
Once Human's October 29 update adds four new Deviations, including O-055, a shapeshifting Whalepup, and O-056's wolf-skull mask.
Once Human's October 29 update did not simply add four new Deviations; it added four new ways for players to lose control of a peaceful base. By 2026, the dust—or rather, the saltwater, spectral feathers, thunderclouds, and veterinary paperwork—has settled. The developers' first-hand notes describe a lineup ranging from a juvenile orca with the mind of a six-year-old to a Tibetan fox who may be the most overqualified doctor in the wasteland. Here is the field guide that players wish had existed before the first wolf-shaped mistake.
O-055: The Whalepup With a 24-Hour Warranty
O-055 looks like a juvenile orca, measures about 1.3 meters long, weighs around 175 kilograms, and has stubby limbs tipped with claws. Behavior-wise, it is closer to a large canine: intelligent like a six-year-old child, able to understand researchers' instructions, and capable of responding by spelling out words. It is playful, curious, friendly to humans, and fond of interacting with researchers—though it often disobeys instructions or plays pranks. That is the charming part. The less charming part is its uncontrollable shapeshifting: after 24 hours without contact with seawater, O-055 transforms into O-055-A, a massive and hostile wolf-like entity about 9.6 meters long and 10 tons heavy. O-055-A shows immense strength, quick reflexes, exceptional physical and biochemical resilience, extreme aggression, and an insatiable hunger toward all warm-blooded organisms, with clear evidence of surplus killing while hunting.
The shared Deviation Trait is matter restructuring. O-055 can convert all non-living materials within a 6-meter spherical radius into saltwater with a salinity of about 3.47%; O-055-A extends that radius to roughly 15 kilometers. Both can swim along or through solid matter. O-055 usually uses this ability for hide-and-seek; O-055-A uses it to ambush unsuspecting prey. Its summon effect turns the battlefield into an underwater world where Metas and Whalepup deal increased damage and immobilize enemies hit by water currents.

The lesson is simple: keep a bucket. The bucket is not optional.
O-056: The Wolf-Skull Mask That Recruits
O-056 combines a red, oval spruce mask with a wolf skull and white fur. The mask has simple eye slits, bone horns extend from both sides of the wolf skull's sagittal crest, and its surface temperature stays between 37°C and 39°C. Its primary trait is manifesting objects. Whether worn or not, O-056 passively generates translucent entities that vaguely resemble birds and beasts. These O-056-A entities are composed of unknown particles in a condensed state, can alter their density to pass through most solid objects, and display strength and resilience far beyond real animals. When O-056 is not worn, O-056-A seeks out male humans aged between ██ and ██ and tries to make them wear the mask; anything or anyone obstructing that goal gets attacked. When properly worn, the wearer—O-056-B—can communicate with O-056-A and command them to perform simple tasks or attack perceived threats. All O-056-A carry out commands with maximum effort. With no command, they cluster around O-056-B to protect and guard the wearer.
All O-056-B refer to themselves as 'emissaries of the King of Beasts, guardian spirits of the hunters.' They claim their mission is to oppose and hunt 'the monstrosity of ████, the dark terror of the frozen depths—███-███.' If O-0██ is mentioned, O-056-B says that 'they are spirits with a mission as well, though serving another great being,' and refuses to elaborate. Its summon effect brings a Soul Summoner to fight beside the player and grants the ability to call forth a phantom firebird that deals massive damage.

Players should treat it like a mysterious job offer from a wolf: flattering, powerful, and probably not something to accept casually.
O-057: The Anxious Thundercloud
O-057 is an anomalous weather phenomenon. It causes severe convective weather with heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong winds, eventually coalescing into a massive storm cloud—O-057-A—with autonomous will and movement. Outwardly, O-057-A resembles a large, tailed animal with an irregular shape. Normally its cloud base has a diameter of 6,000 meters and an altitude of 2,000 meters, though it can reach heights up to 11,000 meters. The cloud appears dark gray and contains intense electrical discharges. O-057-A typically lasts about 16 to 24 hours, during which it feeds on other clouds with higher concentration nuclei densities, behaving like a predatory animal.
Its primary trait is energy manipulation. It can direct and control its lightning discharges and accompanying electromagnetic radiation, with currents reaching several hundred thousand amperes. O-057-A is extremely timid and easily stressed, and it will indiscriminately attack any moving targets nearby. Due to its large size and relatively low-altitude cloud base, it poses a significant threat to entities on the ground. In one securement breach, O-0██ was agitated by O-057-A's lightning and thunder, triggering an unprecedented spatial distortion over a wide area. This permanently transformed O-057-A into a moving thundercloud roughly 30 centimeters long, resembling a salamander. That form is physically stable and has not shown signs of dissipating. Its summon effect brings Zapamander into battle, dealing electric damage to nearby enemies.

The takeaway: do not sneak up on a storm cloud. It is already having a bad day.
O-070: The Tibetan Fox With a Medical License
O-070 is a male Tibetan fox with tawny fur. It stands 1.4 meters tall and weighs 45 kilograms. Like O-██ and O-██, it can walk upright and use tools. O-070 claims to be a professional doctor from '███.' It wears a white lab coat, a blue shirt, and a cotton mask decorated with simple cartoon expressions, and carries a first-aid kit, clipboard, and stethoscope. Both veterinarian and scientist, it possesses in-depth knowledge of veterinary medicine, biological taxonomy, animal behavior, and animal psychology, plus extensive clinical experience. O-070 claims to specialize in veterinary obstetrics.
Its primary trait is telepathy. It can establish a mental connection with any sentient entity within its line of sight, allowing non-linguistic communication. O-070 recognizes over 97% of extant animal species, over 84% of extinct species, and over ██% of [REDACTED], accurately diagnosing their ailments and providing appropriate treatment and care. Its Taming Expert ability boosts the Tameness of all animals in the territory and the Maturity growth speed of younglings; higher Skill Rating means a greater boost. The effect stacks up to a limit but is disabled offline, and multiple Director Foxes can stack the Tameness and Maturity bonuses up to 100%. Fertile Blessing grants a chance for animals in the territory to produce an extra offspring when breeding; higher Skill Rating means a higher chance. When twins are successfully born, 1 Fine Meat is consumed. If there is not enough Fine Meat, the effect will not activate. Fertile Blessing does not stack.

In a wasteland full of things that bite, a fox who can explain why they bite—and then fix it—is worth more than most weapons.
| Deviation | First impression | Hidden catch | 2026 verdict |
|---|---|---|---|
| O-055 Whalepup | 🐋 Adorable orca pup | 🐺 24 hours without seawater = 10-ton wolf | Keep saltwater on speed dial |
| O-056 Soul Summoner | 🎭 Spooky wolf-skull mask | 👥 Transparent beasts recruit male humans | Powerful, but read the fine print |
| O-057 Zapamander | ⛈️ Giant anxious storm cloud | ⚡ Hundreds of thousands of amperes | Do not startle the weather |
| O-070 Director Fox | 🦊 Doctor fox in a lab coat | 🧠 Telepathic veterinary advice | Base-management MVP |
Since the October 29 update, these four have become part of Once Human's ecosystem, and the developers have promised to track their performance and optimize based on data. By 2026, players have learned the hard way:
-
For O-055, build a saltwater routine before the timer runs out. Cute has a deadline.
-
For O-056, decide whether the mask is a tool or a recruitment poster. It has opinions.
-
For O-057, give the storm space, especially when it is stressed. A lightning rod is not a personality.
-
For O-070, let the fox near the animals. It is the only one writing prescriptions instead of problems.
The Whalepup is cute until the timer expires; the mask is helpful until it starts recruiting; the storm is impressive until it panics; and the fox is the one who can diagnose the resulting mess. Players meeting these Deviations should bring seawater, patience, a lightning rod, and a clipboard. Or, more realistically, bring the fox.
